Town Council Meeting #53: the approval of the budget for 2024

4 avril 2024

Today we take a look back at the Local Council meeting held on Monday 25 March. An important point was the approval of the budget for 2024.

The municipality of Etterbeek has a debt of just under €45 million (it will be just under €40 million in 2022).

The commune's budget represents expenditure of €132 million (52% of which is staff costs, which remain stable). Taxes will also remain stable in 2024. Overall, they will even fall slightly by 0.7%. However, operating costs will increase by 10% compared with 2023. This remains a point of attention.

Another major expense for municipal finances is the allocations to the CPAS and the police zone. The former will increase by 7.3% and the latter by 3.5% over one year. Faced with the various crises that are having a social impact, it is essential for us at Ecolo-Groen to fund the CPAS properly.

In terms of investment, €6,381,678 will be devoted mainly to works. The biggest items are: €1,900,000 to complete the work on the Paradis des Enfants school, €400,000 for the construction of a boxing hall (municipal share of a €2.8 million budget), €312,000 for renovations at the Claire-Joie school, €250,000 for the renovation of several pavements and €200,000 for the redevelopment of the Avenue du Préau.

For Ecolo-Groen, it is important that the budget is balanced and responsible. Investing in public spaces and in our social policy also means building a greener, fairer municipality.
