Living in Etterbeek - A tree in front of every home — for everyone?

6 avril 2025

A closer look at local life in Etterbeek — its challenges, its initiatives, and the people who shape it.

Planting trees seems to be a point of consensus among both Etterbeek residents and the various political groups — but it’s actions that truly make the difference.

On Rue des Boers, ten trees were planted in spring 2023 thanks to an initiative by the former majority (which included Ecolo-Groen), supported by a regional grant. Before the project began, the administration consulted local residents about the plans. Their comments were taken into account and their concerns heard: nearly all parking spaces were preserved, and driveway access was respected.

It’s a concrete example of what can be done locally to fight climate change. But more importantly, it’s a practical way to improve quality of life in our neighborhoods. The people of Etterbeek understand this well. That’s why, in 2024, the Saint Pierre–Jourdan neighborhood committee decided to dedicate part of its participatory budget to planting trees on Rue Louis Hap.

At the municipal council, we’ll make sure that “trees, trees, and more trees” doesn’t remain just a beautiful campaign promise.
