FreeGo; where are we now?

8 June 2023

The anti-waste FreeGo is a fantastic initiative launched 4 years ago by the Ecolo-Groen alderman for sustainable development.

While the core of this project is to enable the distribution of unsold food in order to limit waste, while offering free food aid to people in need, the heart of the project is undoubtedly the volunteers who have worked on a daily basis to provide this service to many citizens.

The investment is considerable, because in addition to being present twice a week, they also contact the shopkeepers and go to their shops to collect the foodstuffs that are then distributed: bread, fruit and vegetables, delicatessen dishes, etc.

Every week, around 100 beneficiaries visit Freego!

A big thank you to all the volunteers. Their investment is as colossal as it is beneficial, especially in these times of crisis.

The FreeGo on the chaussée de Wavre is currently closed! Ecolo-Groen has asked the OCMW (in charge of coordination) to speed up the reopening of this project. We hope that the CPAS will do everything possible as soon as possible to ensure the continuity of the service, including with the volunteers who would like to continue working there.

Thank you to all those who have been involved and/or will continue to be involved in this superb initiative, which has both ecological and social benefits for the local population.
