Town Council Meeting #47 : A busy end-of-year for the local council

6 July 2023

Non-Belgians

Ecolo-Groen councillor Thibault Deleixhe raised the question of the place of non-Belgians in our local democracy. He pointed out that 49.8% of us Etterbeekois are not Belgian. This is the highest ratio in the Brussels Region. Our municipality is therefore a kaleidoscope of 154 different nationalities. A consultation process was launched via the In'Etterbeek council. We wanted to know the council's main recommendations. The aim was also to find out what actions had been taken to encourage these citizens to vote in the elections. We'll come back to this in a project article on our website.

Broadcast

For a little over 2 years now, we have been asking for council debates to be broadcast on the Internet. Vincent Biauce, our group leader, asked where the project stood. It's underway," replied the Bourgmestre. All that remains to be done is to complete the equipment by purchasing microphones and camera stands. We'll be sure to report back as soon as it's ready.

Billboards

We returned to the issue of advertising billboards. We had already questioned the college about what it intended to do with the Clearchannel billboards. As a reminder, these billboards no longer have any planning permission and the commune has terminated the agreement. Vincent Biauce asked the Collège when the panels would be removed. The Collège replied that it was behind schedule, but was not in a position to give a timetable for the next stages. We'll keep you posted.

Cleaning

At the request of Ecolo-Groen alderwoman Caroline Joway, the council approved the calls for tender for a 26-tonne truck (with a hook system for containers) and a multifunctional sweeper (1m³) for the cleaning department. The commune of Etterbeek continues to invest in the cleanliness of our neighborhoods.

Greening and public space

Also under the impetus of Caroline Joway, the council approved the call for tenders for the greening of two schoolyards, and the redevelopment of the Square Forte dei Marmi and Rue Gray (between Place Jourdan and Rue de l'Etang).

Finally, we have learned that the sidewalks on rue de la Confiance, rue Colonel Van Gele, rue Général Tombeur, rue des Moissonneurs and rue Dekens will be restored to "working" condition.

We're investing in our public space to transform it, make it cleaner and free it from billboards! We're moving forward.
