Town Council Meeting #49 - new alderman, free municipal administrative service

23 October 2023

Monday's board meeting began with a tribute to Youssef Boughanem. Youssef is a Thai boxing champion with 22 titles to his name. Youssef was born and raised in Etterbeek.

Our group has co-signed a motion asking the administration to make first-name changes free of charge in two cases: if the foreigner has no first name when applying for nationality, or if the person is convinced that the sex mentioned on his or her birth certificate does not correspond to his or her personal gender identity. Otherwise, the cost of a first name change is €50.

As part of the strategic safety and prevention plan, the local council has approved a partnership with the non-profit organization Transit. Transit, a reception and referral center (social, psychological and administrative assistance) for drug users.

As we announced earlier this week, Karim Sheikh Hassan is handing over the reins to defend the environmental values he holds dear in another context. At the beginning of November, he will become deputy director of CRAC, a federal organization working on climate risks.

Alain Bonus takes over with enthusiasm and determination, as alderman for social cohesion, green spaces, public spaces, international solidarity and participatory democracy.

Thank you Karim for all your hard work!

Finally, the Ecolo-Groen group welcomes a new member: Robby Reynaert has been appointed town councillor. Welcome to him.

Next meeting will be November 20 at 8pm!
