The diversity of our list: presentation

26 September 2024

Caroline Joway, head of list and candidate for Mayor

Living in Etterbeek with my husband and 3 children since 2001, my private and professional life has been defined by commitment, altruism, optimism and social justice. I was involved in a number of movements and associations from a very early age, and it was only natural that my studies should lead me to become a French teacher. I worked in Bolivia with street children and then taught French for 20 years at a vocational school in Molenbeek and for 10 years at the Haute Ecole Galilée.

In 2018, I was elected local councillor before becoming alderman for mobility and public works in 2021. This mandate strengthened my determination/motivation and pushed me, given my Etterbeek roots and my commitment, to stand as a candidate for Mayor to make Etterbeek more dynamic, green, participative and fair.

Our list of 35 candidates is intended to be rich and diverse in terms of age (from 19 to 66 - including 5 under 30), nationality (reflecting Etterbeek: Italy, Romania, Poland, France, Spain, etc.) and profile: economists, teachers, nurses, employees, civil servants, doctors, voluntary sector, non-professionals.... The three current aldermen are on the list:

  • No. 1 Caroline Joway - trained teacher. Responsibilities as alderwoman: mobility and public works

  • No. 2 Pieterjan Vanden Boer, Dutch speaker, bio-engineer specialising in climate and energy. Responsibilities as alderman: gender equality and diversity, health policy, ecological transition.

  • No 35 Alain Bonus, teacher and former primary school headmaster. Responsibilities as a councillor: Social cohesion & International solidarity, participatory democracy & participatory budget.

These 35 candidates are spread across the various districts of the Commune.

NB: The list of candidates is available on our website.
