Town council meeting #42 - Sports champions, schoolyard greening and old town hall

24 januari 2023

This Monday's town council meeting started with the honouring of Ermanno Agostini, member of the "Brussels Judo Institute" club, who won the world title (veteran category) in Krakow on September 11, 2022.

The board also honored the Red Fox armchair soccer who became French D4 champions of the discipline for the 2021-2022 season in Dunkirk. Belgium does not yet have a championship but this should be the case from February 2023.

At the initiative of the minister Alain Maron, the project Ré-Création aims to remove asphalt from schoolyards and make them green. Our municipal officer in charge of green spaces, Karim Sheikh Hassan, has responded favorably to this call for projects. On Monday, we validated the agreements with the Brussels region for the greening of the schoolyards of Claire Joie, La Farandole & Les Marronniers. In total, the region will invest more than 500 000€ in this project.

Following a question from the opposition, we have received an update about the former town hall (Avenue d'Auderghem). The project has been delayed. The reason is the type of contract chosen: a public contract with competitive dialogue. This type of contract provides that the municipality (the contracting authority) conducts a dialogue with the selected candidates. The aim is to develop one or more solutions capable of meeting the needs and on the basis of which the selected candidates are invited to submit an offer. This procedure brings a certain complexity but it will allow a greater flexibility/agility in the design of the project. Ecolo-Groen will make sure that the local residents are involved in the design phase of the project. As a reminder, the former town hall will be used for housing (including low-cost housing and social housing) and a polyclinic while keeping the existing green space (Keith Haring Park).
